A cozy chair, a few books and a Carriage House

Whiling away the seasons...Tahilla Farm

Winter…Spring…Winter and a Cozy Chair

Good afternoon from wet and chilly New Hampshire! The calendar says spring but the weather says winter, again! We are all a bit weary of this never ending chill but as all New Englanders tend to do, we take it in stride. Our warmer days will come...eventually...in the meantime, I plan to toss another log on the fire, grab a good book and settle into a cozy chair. My latest read..  A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles, has had me captivated by every word.  I am listening to it via  Audible and it is just wonderful. Perfect rest material...I highly recommend it!

Speaking of rest, I have been cozying up quite a bit lately by way of doctors orders. My stomach started playing up earlier in the year and after many consultations and a bit of head scratching, the answer appeared to be my gallbladder and while they were removing that they discovered a hernia and so now both have been sorted out and I am hoping that is the end of it.

I am not suppose to lift anything heavier than 8-10 lbs. (a gallon of milk). Creative lifting has become a specialty of mine and when in doubt there is always my son, Connor. The timing of us being together at the same time is fortuitous. I have to say, I could think of no better place to recuperate than in the comfort of one’s own home with a good book, a roaring fire and a handy son by one’s side!

I Spy...
The Carriage House, Tahilla Farm

Many of you may remember the early days when I started house hunting down a dirt road and then took a leap of faith and bought Tahilla Farm. In those early days, I wrote about decorating a dream house and spying a studio in a barn

In a previous life, the barn/carriage house was once home to a horse and while we do not foresee a horse in our future we now see a place for guest overflow when the main house is full, a space for those who feel surround sound at the highest level possible is the perfect pitch and my favorite, a place to spread out and create...quietly.  Add to this a space to park cars out of the elements and a place to potter...and we have a renovation. Nothing like a little post surgery excitement!

A few weeks ago I was walking around the hayloft and stopped to take a picture of the view form the hayloft door. I went back to look at my original photos and was surprised to see the changes in the view.

A view from a hayloft...

It never ceases to amaze me when I think of how
far we have come since I first pulled up that dirt road five years ago...

Before and after and still on a dirt road.

There is much to consider in the weeks ahead, like drilling a well and keeping fingers crossed for water. Fortunately the renovation of the main house has put us in good stead for this project. As much as I enjoyed living in Vietnam it had it’s challenge when trying to renovate a farmhouse in New Hampshire. I am thrilled to be able to get up close and personal with this project. We hope to be wrapped up by the end of they year, just in time for Miss Claire's return from her assignment in Botswana. Timing is everything and it certainly flies!

Australia bound on my favorite airline...Qantas

I shall take it day by day in the coming weeks while being mindful of the lifting because most important of all, I will be off to Australia soon to meet up with Mr. H where we will both meet our first grandchild, little Cooper. I do not want anything to get in the way of that! I AM SO SO SO EXCITED!!!

Before I go,
I have a few things to share with you...

  2. Don't you just love it when a plan comes together! It seems funny to call it a "farm" when you've created such a lovely homestead and a place to enjoy both family and friends forever. Hope you'll be feeling better very soon.

    1. That is an interesting notion Webb, it is definitely leaning more towards a homestead. I think the Tahilla Farm name is so ingrained now that it would be hard to let go. I have created a few lists of other name possibilities but the family says it's to late for that! ;)

This morning I clicked 'join' for the book club and look forward to reading and entering any discussion. I have been saving your book lists, so this seemed like a good thing to do too.

  6. Even after surgery your energy leaps out of the screen. Take good care of yourself. Maybe the cold weather is a blessing in disguise. The temperatures suddenly soared here and the rush to deal with the garden is hard to resist.
