Mother, Father, Daughter, College.....

It is the decision and the indecision about the American college application process
that can drive most parents around the bend.
Our daughter is applying for early decision to a college and has to pick one.
She has narrowed it down to two.
Mother has an idea of which one would be be perfect for daughter.
Daughter has reminded mother that she is the one going to college....not mother.
Mother is trying hard to stay calm.
Father is carrying on.

Mother thinks Vermont would be a nice place to visit daughter....

Daughter says....'perhaps mother should go back to college' .

:)

More from mother here....

  1. ... good luck ... always difficult transitions ... the tug of war between who has the wallet and who has to live their own life ...

  2. I do not envy you, but I am sure whichever University she picks will be a wonderful place for you to visit.

Exciting an frustrating times to be sure. When will the offers be coming?

    Have a wonderful week.

  3. I'm interested to hear what she decides. It's interesting to watch you go through this experience...one that I am many years away from. It sounds like you have many good options, though. She will choose wisely. (Vermont is an incredibly lovely place to visit, though!)

  5. Hello Jeanne

Ha Ha, I am chuckling at your daughter's suggestion "that you should go back to college" cheeky brat!

The image of Sissinghurst is stunning.
I have not been and it has been on my wish list for the past 20 yrs and each time we are in England time just gets away.

I would love to see more of your wonderful pics

PS I wish your daughter good luck in her decision

  6. I so remember the process. It was the Dad who had the idea of where Daughter should go and the Mom carried on. Daughter won! Hang in there. Hugs! Bonnie

  7. Same here!!! Mother thinks daughter fits best on the East Coast. Daughter is eyeing the Pacific Northwest. Can't believe daughter is looking at THREE all girl colleges. The applications are crazy. We thought we would get them all done over last weekend and we did only TWO! Today, she worked on the beloved Common App. but then saw the "supplements" sections...

  8. Oh, and my husband just walks through periodically and says "get along girls, get along..."

  9. She'll choose wisely, because you're her mother and you've done your job well, I'm convinced.

Wherever she goes, it'll be her journey and you'll get to enjoy it with her.

Our son switched universities during his freshman year. We were devastated, but he made the most of his college years--lifelong friends and great experiences and memories.

  10. Oh Jeanne - I laughed as I read this early today....I was up especially early as my GG had instructed me to be 'available' to skype so as to admire her outfit for black ball at Sydney uni tonight....I was here....where was she? A 'hair disaster' apparently prevented her appearance....at least I got the day started earlier than usual but......daughters!! Don't you just love 'em?? Best wishes xx

  11. This too shall pass....
I liked your post on table linens and china. I inherited my mom's china (never got any of my own as I eloped!), but I'm thinking that I'll hand it on soon to my daughter. It's too much responsibility--I feel the weight of family inheritance at a time when I'm trying to down size and lighten up. On the other hand, if you entertain often, isn't it fun to dress up the table?
    best, nadia

  13. This sounds slightly familiar Jeanne, when will we learn to let go?! Maybe she's right, maybe we should go back to school and get totally caught up in our own lives all over again - it would give them a break !! :)

    xx

  15. I feel like I'm cheating on you, but my parents wanted to visit Sissinghurst so we went today. Do you know that delphinium is still blooming today?!

  16. Going to college is an important crossroad. It is there where you'll choose what do you want in life.
