I blame it on Paris...

Mother and son travelled to Paris last week, separately.
I went on my own, Connor went on a school trip.
It was his first time, my fifth time.
He was well looked after...and I got lost...kind of.
There is more to the story. I will tell
it via our pictures. :)

 I blame it on Paris...
for being so enchanting
that it distracted me, beckoning me down
one street after another...all day long.

Connor's Eiffel Tower

Jeanne's Secret Garden

I blame it on Paris...
for having such delicious food
that it tempted me on more than one occasion.

Jeanne..afternoon tea at Mariage Freres
(writing postcards).

I blame it on Paris...
for having so many wonderful shops that I could not
help but wander for hours on end.

Jeanne wishes she had bought the bird lamp. :)

I blame it on Paris..
for having such a lovely hotel,
that I found it hard to pull myself away.

The lovely....Hotel Bourg Tibourg ( here and here)

I blame in on Paris...
for being so distracting that I left behind, in my hotel,
all my computer accessories including my one and only
hard drive with all my photos.

Jeanne's study in cafe chairs

I blame it on Paris...
for being so lost in thought last night that I accidentally closed
my MacBook Air laptop on top of my pen and cracked the screen.
My photo world has gone into a white abyss.
(major cringe and tears)

Connor's Notre Dame.

I blame it on Paris...

Connor loves the  Louvre.

But then again, is it such a bad thing?
(all the parts except the computer)

Jeanne blue door.

I came home from Paris...
feeling rested, inspired and
happy for the moments I had on my own.

Jeanne's burst of colour on a rainy day.

I came home from Paris...
delighted with the times spent with
the very talented Vicki Archer @ French Essence
To say these are two Aussie women are wonderful is an understatement.
They are sensational!

Jeanne contemplates a cafe.

I came home from Paris...
thankful for the opportunity to explore
with John Baxter.

John Baxter..talking about cafe society in Paris.

I came home from Paris...
a few kilos/pounds heavier for the delicious
food..but am sure all the walking I did
balanced it out. I remain optimistic on that front. :)

Connor view from the Eiffel Tower.

I came home from Paris...
to greet my 12 year old son, Connor, with open arms.
We viewed Paris apart and found we are so very similar.
He took photos for me...and I love them all.

Connor view from a bus window.

I came home from Paris...
with a clothes that I am sure will be perfect
for our time living in Vietnam. I may have cornered
the market on linen while walking the streets of Paris,
but I am pretty sure, I will be thankful one day.

Jeanne's window shops

I came home from Paris...
not seeing everything on my list but hopeful
for the next time I visit..I know they will still be waiting for me.

Connor's view on Paris.
I got lost in Paris...and I gained so much for it.
If you ever want to lose yourself..and find yourself again.
Go to Paris...and if things go wrong,
you can blame it on Paris.
Not such a bad thing...don't you think?
(except for the computer part)

My Dad used to say he was 'tickled pink' when
he was delighted with something. I have to say
that I am 'tickled pink' with Connor's photos.
We had a 'play' together with the editing. I think
I may have another child...sharing a passion
for photography. Ticked pink times three!

More from Connor....

Connor looks up...

Connor's Unknown Soldier

Connor's rainy reflections
Connor's Sacre Coeur
Connor's Paris sights

Connor's Paris..taken on his iPod
Jeanne's Paris...what remains on her iPhone

Fingers crossed my computer can be fixed and my photographs retrieved.
I wish I could say I have them backed up in several places, but I do not.
Lesson learned..back up, back up and back up and don't think about Paris
whilst closing your computer cover...and never close it on a pen!
Ah, Paris!

To Paris

It is April in Paris....and it is raining.
Do I mind?
Not one bit...would you?

I am just happy 'to be'... in Paris.

There is something really nice about taking your time...
slowly, so that you can appreciate the little things.

My family groans when I stop to take photos and even more so..when
I say "I just want to pop into this shop for a second". This trip is groan free.
I have been taking my sweet time and it has been delicious.

When it pours, I manage the umbrella in one hand and my iPhone in the other.
I was very impressed to see this fellow applying his trade in a similar manner.
I think my approach is easier.

The rain comes and goes...and when the sun peaks out,
everyone is in the air.

I developed an interest in street art this trip. I wouldn't normally
have the time...but now I seek it out everywhere I can.

What is interesting to me is seeing other people's photos of Paris.
We all see the same things...but in such different ways. I love that.

I can see why people love Paris.

It is inviting...

You never know what you will discover when you turn a corner.

That was my day....
I am very excited about my plans for tomorrow.
I will give you two and here.

So tell me, when you travel, how do you like to get about?
Are you a walker too?

My Secret Postcard Box...

My secret box... from Hediard... is not what you would expect.
If you know Hediard's, you would expect some sort of delectable
treat to be inside of it...and there was, once. But now, it is my secret box
where my secret stash...of postcards is kept.

Postcards of Paris..purchased on my first trip to Paris in 1978.

It is a very clever little box. It opens up into all sorts of shapes and configurations,
allowing me to gaze at own little postcard projector.

Dear Stanley...Hong Kong

Mr. H just wrote to say he posted the last of my postcards from Vietnam...all 46 of them.
That was the second batch. I had sent a dozen a week earlier. I admit I cheated, I took
a bunch with me to Hong Kong to write and sent them off with Mr. H when he returned
to his humble abode in Ho Chi Minh City. What a good man he is... :)

Thursday Thoughts...Hong Kong

I have been, as they say around here, flat off my feet this week.
The wheels are moving into action for our move to Vietnam.
Meetings and lists and more a girl a right good headache!

I did the sensible thing this morning.
I grabbed myself a latte and headed out for a long walk with our dog, Tika.
I then booked myself a manicure and a facial as I ran errands around town.
In the midst of it all, I started thinking about what I was doing this time last week.
Seeing that I am a woman that is prone to distractions, I decided to go home
and look at my photos. I really shouldn't be home, I have much more to do...
but just a few minutes longer should be ok...

This time last week, I was on top of a bus, taking in a view of Hong Kong.
I enjoy the top deck of a bus. It is a great way to get your
bearings and sometimes, if I am lucky, I can get a few fun shots.

A quirky shot, I know..but it's a bus~

People asked if I saw blue skies in Hong Kong. I thought it was a strange question.
But I now understand why. The smog (?) sat heavily over Hong Kong for most of our visit.
We did see glimpses of blue the first day and lucky for us,
we managed to be in a good spot to take in the view.

The side streets in Hong Kong seem to be where it is all happening.
A challenge to shoot when you are on the move.

The top of a bus, can put you in front of interesting sights..ones that
you may not give a second glance from the ground.

After a while, you get the rhythm of a start to understand how it moves.

Could you say that Hong Kong is like any other city?
The hustle and bustle, the city skyline..the a way it all seemed familiar.
I wonder what local expats would say...

I also enjoyed the unexpected too...

but even more so, the peacefulness of afternoon tea back at the hotel.

That was my Thursday last week. is rain, rain, rain over Surrey.
The green, green grass of England is coming though.

Miss Tika on our morning walk.

Best wishes to one and all!!
