saying it with flowers....
This afternoon we made our way by plane from Dublin into London. My daughter Christine was sitting by the window and I was seated next to her. Our gaze was focused on the same thing, the view outside our window. Cool grey skies greeted us with green fields no longer covered in snow but with the anticipation of more to come. My thoughts went to friends in Australia and New Zealand who were beckoning in the New Year at about that time. I was thinking of past New Year's with warmth, sunshine, sand between my toes, night skies filled with twinkling stars and fireworks over Auckland and Sydney. At that point, Christine turned to me and said
' don't you just love England when it looks like this? Can we sit by the fire tonight and finish the last episodes of the BBC series Cranford ?" All I could do was smile....I was thousands of miles away basking in sunshine and in a moment was transported back to the here and now. I was taken by surprise. It was a lingering and thoughtful comment which made me think and agree..yes, rain, snow or cough...it is a pleasure to be in England. I have had my family together for the holidays and one by one they depart. We spread ourselves around the globe once again but I know one thing will remain constant...love. On this New Year's Eve 2010, we made our way home, lit the candles, cranked up the fire, grabbed our favourite blankets and settled in for the conclusion of the BBC series of
Cranford. Dame Judy Dench plays the lovable Miss Maddy. Her closing words were about love and how lucky we are to have it in our lives.
The final word is love and that is what I wish to you all in the New Year. May each of you be blessed with love in your lives and may it bring you comfort and joy. From Australia to New Zealand to America to England and to those of you tucked away here and there around the globe, I say thank you for following my words about life over the past year and to those who have recently joined me, I welcome you and thank you for joining this wonderful group of women who make blogging an absolute pleasure. Best wishes to one and all in the new year, may it be filled with love :)

This was a beautiful post Jeanne!! There have been many times I have been deep in thought too, only to be brought back to the appreciation of my own life as it is. It has been a pleasure to get to know you this year through your blog...I think we could be real life friends as I read many things I think we have in common. You seem a person of integrity, a good mother, a lady of taste and style that I admire.

ReplyDeleteDear Jeanne,
ReplyDeleteIt is umbeliveable how people so far apart, that have never met can have the same kind of feelings... I feel what you feel, I also leave farway from my family and it brakes my heart...I made a lot of post recently about family... too bad it is portuguese, I guess my emotions speak lauder in my own language.
I wish you all the love from 2011, from far place to nearest ones.
