Do I Want To Be A Domestic Goddess?

I hate to say it but I do not think I can live up to what it takes to be a Domestic Goddess...
I fear my waistline would not recover if I tried.
I am in the process of reading Nigella Lawson's book
HOW TO BE A DOMESTIC GODDESS
Baking and the Art of Comfort Cooking
As with all cookbooks, the first thing I do is flip to recipes
that have anything to do with chocolate.
This is where the problem begins...
Sour-Cream Chocolate Cake with Sour Cream Icing
Chocolate Cheesecake
Chocolate Mousse Cake
Molten Chocolate Babycakes
Chocolate-Coffee Volcano
Gooey Chocolate Stack
Chocolate Macarons
Cream Cheese Brownies
Espresso Cupcakes
Cappuccino Cupcakes
I want to bake them all!
I have bookmarked my favourite chocolate recipes and that is only one chapter.
From there I went to her website....big mistake.

I want to dive into that tea cup!

Nigella's Chocolate Pudding

INGREDIENTS

250ml full-fat milk
125ml double cream
60g caster sugar
1 x 15ml tablespoon cornflour
35g cocoa powder
2 x 15ml tablespoons boiling water
2 egg yolks
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
60g dark chocolate (minimum 70% cocoa solids), finely chopped
Serving Size : Serves 4

METHOD

1.Put the kettle on, and warm the milk and cream together in a saucepan or in a bowl in the microwave.
2.Put the sugar and cornflour into another saucepan and sieve in the cocoa powder. Add the 2 tablespoons of boiling water and whisk to a paste.
3.Whisk in the egg yolks, one at a time, followed by the warmed milk and cream, then the vanilla extract.
4.Scrape down the sides of the pan and put it on a lowish heat, cooking and whisking for about 3–4 minutes until the mixture thickens to a mayonnaise-like consistency.
5.Take off the heat and whisk in the finely chopped chocolate, before pouring into 4 small cups or glasses, each with a capacity of about 150ml.
6.Cover the tops of the cups or glasses with clingfilm, letting the clingfilm rest on the chocolate surface, to stop a skin forming, and refrigerate once they are cooler. Make sure they are not still fridge-cold when you serve them. You can add a blob of cream on top if you like.

There is more!

PS..due to technical difficulties I could not present the Chocolate Raspberry Pavlova recipe. The computer and I are not getting along at the moment!

You can find it on the website:)

  1. The pudding, the pavlova... Yikes!
No sugar until Easter for this CRAZY lady. I fear I may over-do it a bit come Easter morning... the pudding, the pavlova.

  2. Hi Jeanne, I regularly make the chocolate pavlova....all I can say is... TOTALLY WORTH IT! It is crunchy on the outside, gooey and chocolatey on the inside and you really must insist upon raspberries for the tang. Delish!

I try to limit myself to performing Nigella-like feats only when friends are coming over. Otherwise, my waistline would only be measurable using axe handles...probably about 3 axe handles-worth! Meredy xo

  3. Hi Jeanne, The thing about Nigella is that with all those curves she still looks fantastic. Glad to see I'm not the only one getting a post in late on Sunday, - tomorrow's hectic and if I hang around a bit this evening I'll catch the beginning of the oscars!

  4. Hi Jeanne
Yes , thanks for asking, there's a link to my etsy after my blog roll. Only just started, but there'll be more soon. It's like everything on the net, hard work to begin with, then you get into the flow.
By the way I've been meaning to say it's a great photo of you with your camera that you've put up as your profile!

  8. Dear Jeanne,

Consider yourself fortunate that we are so very far apart, though I honestly wish it were not so, but my reason for saying it is that I can share with you that I have a couple of hundred cookbooks that I collected over the last 30 years. Apart from ethnic cookbooks, mostly Italian and MIddle Eastern, Almost half are on baking, deserts and so the topic of chocolate is well covered, even with a few devoted on the subject matter.

Her in the US, Nigel has a cooking show on the food network channel. Since I have not been watching the food channel for some time, since they changed the order of appearance.

Wishing you a wonderful week and know that I am delighted that our paths have crossed.

    warmest regards,
    Egmont

  9. Jeanne, I have a confession to make about the chocolate pudding - Mr Brabourne and I have made it so many times and eaten so much of it that it is now on our "Banned from the Kitchen" list! Maybe in the future we'll be able to eat it again but I am definitely suffering from chocolate pudding overload at the moment. Must suggest to Mr B that he tries something else from this delicious book. Hope you have a lovely, chocolaty week. Leigh

  10. Delicious! I have this book too, and I love it. It's only on the weekend though that I do splurge and make those delicious desserts. Speaking of cookbooks, I have 3 book giveaways going on in honor of International Women's Day. Two of them are cookbooks.

  11. Jeanne - Baking books spend most of their life on my bedside table or opened at an appropriately luscious page on my recipe stand - for reference only!! (Except on special occasions!!) I concur with Meredy - the choc pavlova is deliciously worth it & you MUST have the raspberries..apart from anything else, you feel less sinful! x

  12. That mousse is so beautifully presented that it would be an insult to the stylist not to make it, right? The chocolate loaf cake from the Domestic Goddess book is one of my dearest staples.

  13. This post made me laugh so much. Only because it sounds awfully a lot like me. But that picture with those pink bookmarks!!! Hilarious. And that my dear, is the reason I haven't bought her books till now. But now I have to after reading the recipe. Ooh creackers....now I really must! :-(

  15. Choccie Pudding is the absolute favourite here at The House of Raising Sons! I love to see so many stick-it thingies in a cookbook Jeanne - tells me that it was worth every cent!
