Playing Hookie...shhh!

I played hookie today and hopped a train into London.
I had enough of house and home.
First stop was the National Portrait Gallery.
I have been dying to see the Irving Penn exhibit.

Lisa Fonssagrives-Penn

Woody Allen playing Charlie Chaplin

Marlene Dietrich

Spencer Tracey...Fab!
It was wonderful!

Second stop Fortnum and Mason's to check out the
window displays for Mother's Day on March 14th!

Love the pink...

Shaken not stirred...

Bubbly, of course!

Sweets for the sweet!

All the things to make Mom's day...lovely!

From there, I lingered in a cafe, took my sweet time...
browsing in a few bookshops,  a wander here, a browse there...
and I was off again.
I feel recharged and ready to go.
Home Sweet Home!
(Shh...Mum's the word!)

  1. Oh Jeanne,
We are living parallel lives at the moment. I have a photograph of Marlene Dietrich on my blog today and I'm going into London tomorrow !!
Sounds as if you had a great day. Fortnam's window looks brilliant and the exhibition , wonderful.
Nice to see that you snuck off for some R&R, Jeanne style. XXXX

  2. I am here at the office, running like crazy from task to task, and just took a moment to check my reader (I need to breathe, breathe, breathe). I saw your post and decided to read it. What a breath of fresh air. I realize I need a day off just for me. It looks like you enjoyed your day. Beautiful.

  4. How wonderful to treat yourself to day like this. I think taking this time for ourselves is incredibly important. For the creative process, recharging to be a good Mum and wife, partner, friend. I always come back so energized and refreshed that I wonder why I don't do this more often.

  5. This isn't called playing hookie, you were completing important research for your ongoing publication, and recharging your batteries with the energy required for your extremely demanding, full time, role as mother and wife at home!!

  13. Jeanne,
What a fun day. Just to be able to say 'I went to London for the day' would be enough for me. But, I did enjoy the window shopping. Thanks for sharing.
