Journey of the Mind

Funny how the mind takes you this way and that.
Mine has been aflutter all day.
I must be feeling better :)

Thank you all for your well wishes,
my bout of flu is finally making an exit.
I am just getting around to the
Weekend paper (last weekends)
and catching up on some paperwork.
Things are most definitely looking up.

Speaking of news....the papers here
have been buzzing with the
news of Victoria Beckham's pregnancy.
The Tweeters are Twittering!
Such a fuss!

When I saw this headline in The Telegraph,
'Is the Fourth Child a Status Symbol'?
I just laughed.  What will they think of next?

Having my fourth at 42 was an accomplishment in itself.
I can tell you I was not thinking about status symbols.
A Range Rover was the furthest thing from my mind.
With the fourth child, I was thinking Minivan and lots of it.

I admit, there were times when I thought I was crazy.
Four kids can be a bumpy road at the best of times.
Those teenage years can put anyone over the edge...
but that is life, you grow, you learn, you adjust
and in the end you are just thankful for
these blessings in your life.

My brood in 1999.

Speaking of four...
My mind is still on a journey.
A sure sign I am feeling better :)

I am in a qandry.
I have four calendar/ diaries on my desk
and I can't seem to let go of any of them.

My logic...
I need one large one ( New Yorker) for the kitchen counter.
I need a no fuss calendar for the kitchen bulletin board.
I am not kidding when I say no fuss.
I love this calendar.

until someone decides to add
a few of her own comments..
lest' we forget :)

I need the green DeBrett's for my purse
just in case the iphone battery wears out...and of course
the iphone manages it all.

It's complicated I know...but when they are all in sync,
my little army is in perfect order :)

I just love that feeling :)

Many thanks for reading my rambles and
best wishes for a wonderful weekend!

Jeanne xxx

PS...

I should probably mention that I am the oldest of six children,
so, I guess, four seems like a walk in the park by comparison :)

  1. Four! I am in awe! My thinking was two hands, two eyes, two kids!
My best friend has four (I think...could she not count?)...although the joy in her life is four-fold.
    I kneel at your feet!

  3. You are right...when all is in sync...all is right with the world!! I live by my calendar and write all over it! My phone too, is such a life line. You sound amazingly organized to me!! Four children? That in itself makes one HAVE to be organized...and last one at 42?...you go girl!! It keeps you young! I had three and last one at 33...my daughter teases me about being the oldest parent amongst her friends. Ha!
So glad you are feeling better, Jeanne!!

  5. Ah, Jeanne, how blessed you are to have four children in today's world where parents don't want more than one kid. I can imagine your house with children running around and meal times when there is plentiful chatter and laughter. I guess you should do an exclusive post on meal times at your house when all of four are present.

I loved this post as it seemed quite wholesome and warm. As I often say, home and hearth are very dear to your heart and you never fail to enthrall us with those topics.

    Joy always,
    Susan

  6. Four little girls sat at our dinner table each night. Now they are all grown up. My husband can finally get a word in!
Glad you're feeling better. Take care.

  7. Hi Jeanne, glad you are feeling better! I too have four children and organisation, organisation and organisation are definitely the three key words and no clutter or hoarding! They all grown up now but it has been the most wonderful time of my life and I am missing them as they gradually fly the nest!

  9. I always knew you were way more organised than me Jeanne, but 4 diaries!! that just amazes me! If I tell you that last year I managed all the way through to end June without a diary (or I-phone) will I go down in your esteem?!
Amazing how similar our broods have looked over the years. Same numbers, same ages.
    Have a great weekend

  11. Jeanne - lovely to hear you are feeling better. Four a status symbol? Now I am not sure. I have huge admiration for anyone who has a brood of children - anything above 2 basically. I met someone at a dinner party who was one of five sisters and she had just had her fourth baby girl! She was planning to keep going to 5! I was stunned - especially as she looked sooo together! She said that was what family meant to her - lots of siblings. She was lovely. Lou xx

  12. I love the IDEA of 4 kids, but I am a big chicken and stayed with 2. As for the calendars - this year, I am trying to keep it to two - one paper, one on the phone backed up to the computer. Otherwise by July, at least one of them stopped being used. I'm trying to break my calendar addiction.

  13. I know, I know. I can't work out the best calendar/diary combo. Hope are are going full throttle again shortly Jeanne. I've loved following your travels, including to Canberra. I'll the diary is filling rapidly with more trips. You're an inspiration. All power to older mothers too!

  15. I've always thought that I would have liked to have more children, having just the two, a boy and girl, seemed enough at the time, but when I think of my own sister J., and the relationship we have now, I often think it would have been so wonderful for my daughter to have a sister.
Four is a lovely number, your family is lovely too.

  16. 2nd try (spelling mistakes in the first one):
I guess you don't see the 4th kid as a status symbol because you have 4 kids, it is normal to you. A woman I know (she is close to me), has 3 kids.3 kids already is way above average in Austria these days. Whenever she talks about those families with 4, you can hear the envy in her voice. Probably also because 4 kids come because it is expensive to raise 4 kids and even more expensive to provide that space in a decent living area in Vienna. So when you see the 4 kids, the family behind the kids must be rich. On the other hand you find immigrants who raise 4, 5 kids with only small income.

  18. I love thast family shot - it's a beauty. Glad you are feeling better. I wonder if Posh gets morning sickness and swollen ankles? Bet if she does, she won't leave the house for fear it will make front page news! She must have stretch marks by now too!

  19. Calendars make me very happy. Maybe four calendars would make me even happier.

I grew up in a large family too and we are all great friends.

    Fondly,
    Glenda
