An Autumn Traveller and a Postscript

I fell in love with this image the moment I saw it,
in fact I have been saving it for months...
for the first true Autumn day.
It has arrived.

It is hard not to miss the details, there are so many.
I wonder who lives here and what the objects say about the owner.
I imagine this to be the entry in the home of a traveller, in autumn.

I wonder....
The six framed prints, maps of where, significance to the traveller?
The paper on the ceiling, a Tapa cloth from the South Pacific?
The traveller likes orange, disposition of the traveller?
The chandelier, origins?
The leaf motif container of walking sticks, one for each country travelled?
Hat, boots and a throw...man, woman, age?
Freshly picked branches of berries, does the traveller live in the country?
Books on the creative genius, Tage Andersen, is the traveller from Copenhagen?
A collection of memories arranged on the table, family heirlooms?
The cream rug, does the traveller have children and dogs?
The table, and objects under the table, were they collected in travels?
The chair inviting us to sit and read...does the traveller do the same?

To add to the mystery, I can not recall where this image came from.
It has been in my magazine files for some time.
A mystery, just like the traveller.

By coincidence,
I took the photo below this afternoon,
a quick snap of beautiful flowers
given to me by a dear friend.
She knows me well...my favourite colour.

And in the reflection,
my hat sits on my collection of
walking sticks, to remember where
I have been and where I am going.
and...

an autumn travel memory from
Papua New Guinea

How about you,
who do you think lives in this house?
Are you an autumn traveller?

POSTSCRIPT

Thank you all for your comments...
I am happy to see that I am not the only one
who likes to look at a picture and look for possibilities.
What is wonderful about an image like this is what we can take
and create in our own homes...here are a few of the clues you left for me.

Something from Hermes for Hostess..

Animal prints or a statue on the Dr. Dolittle theme for Angela..

A pair of sexy black boots for Lou...

A collection of one's favourite things to welcome one home..
things that whisper possibilities,
just as Kerry so eloquently suggested.

A hat for Christina @ RIver Rose because
I think the hat is just as much her as me :)

Roses for Donna because she loves them.

A collections of Maurie's personal photographs taken
on her one of her sojourns into her lovely wooded park.

An orange silk flamenco shirt worn by Wilderness for a grand entrance.

I love all these little clues you have given me here...
any more?

What would you take from this photo and add into your own entry?

  4. Great shots, love the ones from papua New Guinea.

Who lives in this house, why Dr. Dolittle of course. He has been away talking to the animals

  5. Morning - I love how you see so much in that picture. Now as for me, my eye sent straight to the boots! Is that a sign?! The house looks beautiful though; that balance between interesting and not over-cluttered. Lou x

  6. That first picture just screams Autumn! I love it! It is supposed to be Spring here in Brisbane but the weather has been quite miserable and rainy. Oh well, I can pretend it is Autumn again.

    Best wishes,
    Natasha.

  7. These are the things that whisper possibilities to others aren't they? Memories, interests, things inherited, things recently acquired, from travels or the shop down the road. So much better than seeing something out of a catalogue! Thanks Jeanne.

  8. All of these things are what makes this house a home and pertinent to the owner. A beautiful collection of treasures, giving the room a lovely feel. So right for this time of year Jeanne. XXXX

  11. I feel like I could pretty easily walk into that room as if it were my own. I only hope those boots have room for my calves - I'm still searching for wonderful tall boots with room for my calves, sigh. The carpet, I love - but it would be spattered with black cat fur more often than not. And that chair in the foreground looks so easy to collapse into after long treks outside! Love the orange. Also one of my favorite colors and probably why this season is one of my favorites. My travels will be short this fall, just here in my city, but I traveled a few blocks by foot yesterday to a lovely wooded park and took lots of pictures and picked up the first of many colorful leaves to arrange in my home for the season...

That is such a lovely photo, such an inviting place xx

  17. Indeed, I am an autumn traveller! Right now we are exploring New Brunswick and tonight we have landed on Prince Edward Island. Color abounds, sky is bright, temperatures are crisp. All is well.
