Dandelion Thoughts
I went walking in the woods this morning
and came across this dandelion, standing tall and proud.
My next thought was that it is a like a woman,
holding all the little bits of her life together.
Proud as a peacock, swaying in the wind....
resilient to the end.
Then comes along that sneeze.
God help all who come into her path then!

It's a lovely metaphor. Mind you, I like to think of the little bits of my life as big bits of my life, if that Aristotelian blow is coming anyhow.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photo Jeanne.. just beautiful!!! and lovely sentiment too... it's funny .. not having children ... I suppose i fall into a different sort of category, but find myself gathering more bits of myself everyday!!! Have a wonderful day!!! xxx Julie
ReplyDeleteOh Jeanne,
ReplyDeleteThat was brilliant. I'm afraid that I'm not as poetic as you and I was thinking that the dandelions are so prolofic this year that, all I want to do is douse them in weed killer !!!! .....they are very beautiful in their seed head state though... another lovely comparrison to us women !! XXXX
Gosh this spoke to me. Great photo, great analogy.

Very poetic Jeanne, I love your way with words...and then I had to laugh at Jacqueline's comment! So funny how different people's perceptions can be, isn't it? K xx
ReplyDeleteSpot-on! What a lovely photo. Have I asked you about your camera? I need a new one and am trying to decide which one would be best. Isn't walking the best at allowing all of our random thoughts to come to life.
ReplyDeleteOh Jeanne - so it's not only me who 'does the big sneeze' and terrifies the household until I feel bald and can grow my flowers back again? That is very reassuring. Mise is right - it's a gorgeous metaphor. You are definitely a poet...
ReplyDeleteGreat analogy, Jeanne. Everything you wrote about it is true about us women, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteVery Zen thought...and look at all her babies just waiting to land and start a new life of their own!
ReplyDeleteSuch a wonderful thought, beautifully expressed in the most marvellous of metaphors :)
ReplyDeleteI used to love to blow on dandelions. I'll think about it differently now!!
ReplyDeleteYes, I did see my mention on the bluebell post!! You are so sweet. I don't know how that one got past me!!
What a lovely thought it being a woman standing tall and proud. If tha'ts true then there's a convention of strong woman in my backyard and it's getting loud out there!
ReplyDeleteYou've remade the humble dandelion from a weed to a wonder! Lately, I feel like I am trying to hold on to all the little bits but the wind is blowing hard ... I think I needed to see this post today. Thanks for sharing this.
ReplyDeleteSounds like gale force winds to me :)
ReplyDeleteI think an extra glass of wine may be needed with dinner !!
Thanks for your comment Stephanie...glad to hear I am not the only one :)
Oh, that made me smile....
ReplyDeleteSneezes come at the most unexpected moments don't they. And yet we're so photogenic.
Susan
Amen, Sister! Your metaphor says much, all of which I like. Lovely post!
ReplyDeleteA wonderful way to give the lowly dandelion a little chance in the limelight. Great thought!
