Gorgeous Grace
The Grace Kelly: Style Icon exhibit opened last week
at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
The buzz around town in the magazines,
papers and online is that it is an exhibit not to be missed.
That gorgeous gal from Philadelphia
who went on to become one of Hollywood's leading ladies
and onto further stardom as the memorable
Princess Grace of Monaco has us all talking again.
The exhibition spans four decades of fashion and focuses
on her spectacular wardrobe as both actress and princess.
If you follow Grace thru her films you will recognize dresses
from High Society, Rear Window along with the dress
she wore to accept her Academy Award for The Country Girl.
Her haute couture wardrobe from the 1960's and 1970's is also on display.
Some of her favourite Paris couturiers at the time were Christian Dior,
The detail on each garment is stunning.
Film and video footage intermingled with the displays
offered a close-up study of woman who epitomized
both the glamour of Hollywood and the allure of European Royalty.
What I enjoyed most, was remembering Grace Kelly.
My mother was married one year after Grace and I imagine
my mother had many sketches of Grace Kelly's dress by her side
as she planned her own. Growing up I followed her eldest daughter,
Caroline, Princess of Hanover, as we were born the same year.
What I remember most about Grace Kelly at the time
was her role as mother to her children.
She was 52 when she passed away.
Too young for her children and many more.

Hi Jeanne
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful exhibition and post! Grace Kelly certainly had a style that was rarely pulled off by others.. I think Caroline was born the same year as my brother and yes they were very much the buzz when we were young... Sounds like you had a wonderful day.. wish I could see the exhibition but sadly too far ...
Congratulations on your 300th post!! What an achievement. It's been fun to be part of your community and I looking forward to many more. And thanks for giving us a chance in your fab giveaway. I grew up on all this music.. my parents old 78rpm records and the tunes from all the wonderful classics which I still watch.
My favourite scents ... I have a few.. But First by Van Cleef & Arpel and the original Chloe by Karl Lagerfeld hold wonderful memories for me...
Ok.. have a great week.. and thanks for the giveaway.. xx Julie
I would love to attend this! So far away... I wear Blue by Ralph Lauren and Chanel No. 5-every once in a while I try another, but these are my two favorites~ Blue for day...Chanel for evening.
ReplyDeleteCongratulation~ 300 posts! I'm going back and read some earlier ones I may have missed.
What a lovely post Jeanne. She was a very special lady, I often watch High Society for the music and for her delicious role. I love her best when, hungover after the big party, on the morning of her wedding, she says in a very fragile voice to Frank S "Do you like my dress ..... it's ever so heavy".
ReplyDeleteHope I'll get to see the exhibition.
Mon mari loves me to wear Guerlain, most often I use l'Instant de Guerlain.
Thanks for a great giveaway,
Sharon
I think that this is the same exhbitiion that I saw in Monaco two years ago Jeanne, maybe just slightly smaller....it was FABULOUS, visually stunning and just so perfecttly presented. I loved it!
ReplyDeleteWell done on 300 posts....congratulations!!!
:)
WOW!!! I am so jealous! I think the chances of the exhibit traveling to Minnesota are zero but oh how I would LOVE to see it! I am glad you had a good time!!! Thanks for sharing it with us!
ReplyDeleteOh Jeanne I was just reading about Grace Kelly last night, how strange that this is your post! Oh what a beautiful woman!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your 300th post how amazing! I'm so glad I am able to be a part of reading them!
My favorite perfumes right now are Coach and Chanel Chance! What a fab giveaway!
Grace Kelly epitomized style and elegance and beauty. Whatever she wore looed beautiful. I especially like the first two desses and the blue one in the video. For an engagement ring, Prince Ranier gave Grace Kelly a 12caret emerald cut diamond ring, set in platinum with baguettes on either side. My favorite scent is Miss Balamain.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on 300 posts, Jeanne!
ReplyDeleteGrace Kelly was something else. While there are a few movie stars both beautiful and classy, very few surpass her effortless elegance and sophistication.
Hello Jeanne
ReplyDeleteThanks for these stunning pictures.
My favourite scent is Guerlain's Mitsouko. It is so multi layered and truly evocative, but what it evokes is mystery! I have loved it since I was little because my Auntie has worn it for years and it reminds me of the air of glamour when she arrived to visit. She gave me some initially, but now I think I have made it my own too.
how cool Jeanne, i loved the V+A when i was there last year. The exhibition would be amazing i imagine!
ReplyDeletesignature scent, hmmm probably L’air du temps - but i change ALL the time. I'm silly like that :)

Hi Jeanne, I am so envious of you seeing this exhibition and I think we must be the same age! Huge congratulations on 300 posts...that is a stunning achievement. As for perfume I mix it up a bit but I always seem to come back to Beautiful by Estee Lauder.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post, Jeanne! I don't have a single favorite, but one of my all time favorites is by Comptoir Sud Pacifique: Les Enfants du Soliel. It smells of summer, and joy!
ReplyDeleteI adore "van clef" gardenia.
ReplyDeleteLovely give-away - I saw the exhibit in NY!
pretty!

Screeching in late, dust flying from my heels. Have you all gone without me? My fave daytime scents are Tommy Girl by Tommy Hilfiger (it smells like Christmas) and SJP Lovely. I'm also fascinated by Caroline as as we share a birthday. Sad lot though, in the end. Looking forward to the next 300 posts.
ReplyDeleteWow, congratulations on your 300 posts dear Jeanne !!!
ReplyDeleteI keep trying out different perfumes, but my all time favorite is Poison by Christian dior.
Such a fantastic Giveaway this is !!!
Cheers,
Sukanya
I love Grace Kelly...she and Audrey Hepburn were so lovely.
ReplyDeleteI congratulate you on your milestone post!
I wear Hermes 24 Faubourg for evening...I work in a school so we are not permitted to wear scent...I wash my hair in Aveda Shampure and use their Brilliant products so there is a subtle lingering scent from them!
What a wonderful post.... I can't wait to see this exhibition, might have to watch a few more Grace Kelly films first though - I loved Rear Window but have never seen the others you mention...
ReplyDeleteYour giveaway is very generous. My current favourite perfume is Diptyque L'Ombre dans L'eau, it's a rose-based scent but quite dark, and to me it also smells quite green. I've never smelled anything like it, and I love it very much.
I also like Coco Mademoiselle.
Enjoying all the other recommendations here!
