Home, you say, when day is done,
Home to comfort and peace and rest;
Home, where the children romp and run-
There is the place that you love the best!
Yet what would the home be like if you
Had all of its endless tasks to do?

Would it be home if she were not there,
Brave and gentle and fond and true?
Could you so fragrant a meal prepare?
Could you numberless duties do?
What were the home that you love so much,
Lacking her presence and gracious touch?

She is the spirit of all that's fair;
She is the home that you think you build;
She is the beauty that you dream of there;
She is the laughter with which it's filled-
She, with her love and her gentle smile,
Is all that maketh the home worth while.

  1. Beautiful, Jeanne. Absolutely beautiful. And isn't it true that no matter how wonderful our day out or our vacation were, there is no place like home?

  2. Beautiful quote! and those flowers are beautiful. i also love something i saw attributed to Jane Austen, 'There is nothing like staying at home for real comfort.'

  3. There comes the HOME. Home is the connection with our interior self. Incidentally my thesis is on home.

    Jeanne hope you are well. Seems like a long time.

    Joy and peace,

  4. Beautiful and so true! I love how we take a trip and have a great time but boy we can't wait to come home! Theres nothing better then the smell of your own home, your bed and your own reading chair. Those flowers are gorgeous!

  5. Isn't it amazing that a place can embrace us with warm, open arms?

  6. Lovely photo and lovely words to go with it!

  7. Dear Jeanne,
    What wonderful words and a beautiful image. Home is very important to me and that's probably why I called my blog 'HOME'.
    I'm not sure that I have all of the attributes in Edgar. A. Guest's poem though !!!! XXXX

  8. Beautiful words and such a gorgeous image. It's a simple phrase but ever so true- Home is where the heart is. This is all perfect for a Sunday Jeanne.

  9. This is a lovely poem Jeanne, I wasn't familiar with the poet Guest. More of an ode to the home maker than to the home? He gives us a lot to live up to.

  10. This image is beautiful, the poem is perfect. Perfect for this mom to read at the end of a long weekend! Marija

  11. Ooohhh...beautiful!! Thank you Jeanne, XXX.

  12. Bonjour Jeanne,
    Beautiful image and the poem is so true isn't it?
    Hope you're having a great week so far,

Can I just say....that I so enjoy what YOU have to say. If you would like to write to me directly, I would love to hear from you...
